We were in the area and it was lunch time so we gave this place a try on a Saturday. The place wasn't particularly busy as we arrived just a little before midday. The food was better than expected. The Hainanese Chicken Rice was good as the chilli was correctly made. Many other restaurants either made the chilli too sweet or tasteless. The Pan Mee soup was nice also. The only negative I have is the sambal chilli. It was a bit salty to my liking. We might try the main dishes next time as they look delicious.
This unassuming restaurant has exceeded my expectations. What it lacks in ambience is more than made up in the quality of the food. The flavours are authentically Malaysian with great depth. We are definitely going to be back to try more dishes.
Back again for the Curry Fish Head.
First time I changed to Sliced Fish / Fish Fillet. Didn't really like it as the fish fillet was fried with batter and the flavour just didn't match the curry.
However, this time I tried the original Fish Head, now that was good. I reckon the fish head is slightly fried, which makes it more flavourful.
Vegetables was slightly to soft in my opinion. Overall, me and my wife finished the whole pot of Fish Head Curry, need not explain more. It's worth it and worth the try.
Curry Fish Head: 4.2/5.0
Soy Cincau: 4.5/5.0 (too much ice)
Best Sarawak Laksa in Melbourne! So far this Sarawak Laksa has the richest flavour and aroma compared to others that I’ve tried before. The combination of the rich broth, vermicelli, prawn, shredded chicken & egg works mystically together. Its so delicious that I’d totally forgotten about the Belachan till halfway through the bowl, which brings the whole tasting experience to another level! Wow ! Well done chef! The Beef Rendang with dried noodles is another delicious choice. Not forgetting the refreshing Iced Teh Tarik (Milk Tea). Will definitely be back to try other highly recommended dishes.
Alor Street has been one of my favourite places to eat for probably over a year now! Our favourite things to order are the XO pipis (with you tiao!) and the green beans with mince pork! The ayam masak merah is also a banger.
The last time my partner and I went there (a few days ago) we shared an asam laksa and kam heong pipis! Both of which were very tasty and quite rich. The kam heong clams tasted similar to the XO pipis but stronger with a thicker sauce (and was spicier), which we had to mop up using some you tiao. The asam laksa was lovely but a bit too much for me, it was good we were sharing because I probably wouldn't be able to finish it on my own (personal taste though!).
Service is always good, they're very attentive and the food comes pretty quickly!
Very friendly service and great food. The special curry laksa was rich and hearty… top notch! Roti was fresh and crispy too. Will be back!
If you are looking for some really good curry laksa (personally don't really enjoy Ah sam laksa), this is the place you should come! Thick and creamy texture of the soup with lots of toppings and noodles. It is mixed with two types of noodles, which are Vermicelli and yellow noodle. I was so full after finished it all. If you are from Hong Kong, you could hear some local songs and try some dishes that you never think of you could have it here, for example 芋頭扣肉 and 胡椒豬肚雞湯. Good to have some hot soup👍🏾👍🏾( I tried the soup another day during lunch time, ofc it's good🤣🤣)
Great bak kut teh - authentic and full of flavour, and I loved how it was served piping hot and still bubbling! The portion size was large and the dish included many ingredients: pork rib, pork belly, pork intestine, mushrooms, enoki, tofu, goji etc. It came with rice, some you tiao and chilli sauce.
Food: 4.5/5
Value: 4/5 (Price: $23.90)
